The Second WALKING SOCCER Tournament - Held at Arbutus Meadows - October 23, 2021

Our Local TeamsAfter months of preparation, VanIsle Walking Soccer held BC's second Provincial Walking Soccer Tournament on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Arbutus Meadows Arena in Nanoose Bay, B.C.  Teams came from Victoria, Nanaimo and the Parksville-Qualicum Beach area.  Representatives from the RDN and the BC Senior Games were on hand and were recognized along with the organizers for both the Nanaimo and Victoria squads and the owners of the facility.  Special thanks to the referees, their assistants and the scorekeeper; they all contributed to make it a smoothly-run event. Walking Soccer started organized play in Canada right here in Parksville in March 2016. There were only eight players at the first session.  Today, the sport has spread across Vanisle and the Province of B.C. with teams and leagues forming in many cities and towns.  The latest entry comes from Victoria and they are off to a great start as they have access to a large base of senior soccer players in the GVA.  They are embracing the sport as much more of an aerobic workout than they assumed from the name 'Walking' Soccer.  The tourney games were of good calibre and were enjoyed by the participants.  Many positive comments have been received from the players who were in attendance.  The PGOSA squad acquitted themselves very well  en route to winning the tourney.  We look forward to the continued growth of the game and many more fun but competitive tournies. Also, as the number of players grows, it is hoped that we can offer both competitive and a 'relaxed' forms of the game and allow players to choose the level of competition at which they wish to participate.  A terrific day and congratulations to the PGOSA/Vanisle squad for a job well done!.
