An Introduction to PGOSA's Walking Soccer Activity
In late 2015, two PGOSA members asked if we had heard about this non contact sport from England called "Walking Soccer". After a bit of organizing, VanIsle Walking Soccer "kicked off" in March 2016. We are advised that we were the first Organized League to form in Canada. The sport is huge in England and Europe and is slowly spreading across North America.
If you would like to check it out, you will find us all 'walking around' the Arbutus Meadows Arena in Nanoose, B.C. for our fall and winter sessions. Our schedule for both outdoor and indoor walking soccer can be found in the PGOSA calendar.
We are always looking for new players from our PGOSA membership and you would be most welcome! We play from September to March indoors at Arbutus Meadows Arena on Tuesdays and Thursdays and then we play for free at the Parksville Community Park from April to September.....usually from about 12:30-2:30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursday afternoons.
We invite you to come and see/try the game for yourself. All players are required to be members of the Parksville Golden Oldies Sports Assocation (PGOSA). Not a member? Then click here for access to the PGOSA membership form; or even easier - Click to complete the ONLINE membership form! As a PGOSA Member your fees cover Accident, Disability and Dental Insurance coverage and Liability Insurance coverage for the field or Arena providers.
The current cost to play Indoor Walking Soccer for all the fall sessions includes two sessions each week (Tuesdays and Thursdays). To play for ninety minutes the cost is $100.00 and two 60 minute sessions weekly costs $80.00 (that's only $5 a session!).
If your time is limited, it is just $5.00 to drop in on any session as a PGOSA member.
A terrific deal to get a good bit of light aerobic exercise and enjoy the fellowship of playing a fun, no-contact sport and totally suitable for co-ed play.
